CEAGESP – São Paulo General Warehousing and Centers Company – appeared in May, 1969, as a merger between two companies maintained by the Government of the State: CEASA and CAGESP. Today, the company maintains the largest public network of warehouses of the State of São Paulo, and a complex of 13 wholesale centers, that secure the supply of a great part of the State, besides offering support services to the agriculture producer, to the merchants and consumers.

The CEAGESP head office, in the capital of São Paulo, is located within the São Paulo Terminal Center (ETSP), considered as one of the world’s largest by commercialization volume. It started its activities in 1966, when a flood affected the Central and Cantareira markets, and caused the merchants to relocate to the Vila Leopoldina center, still under construction.

The company started a decentralization supply process. At the end of the 70´s, it inaugurated, in São José dos Rio Preto, the first center outside the capital. Currently, the Company maintains 12 units distributed by the country side of the State, located together with centers of production and consumption.

The warehousing network of the Company grew in the same pace. In 1970, CEAGESP also built the first horizontal silos coupled to grain tanks of the country. At that time, the network received the regulating inventories of the federal government, purchased in various states and stored in cities of the country side of São Paulo.

From 1986, following the changes of the agricultural scenario, the warehouses of CEAGESP started to shelter products like bagged sugar, on account of the sugar cane culture expansion that, besides orange, has taken the lead of the agriculture of the State of São Paulo. In 1997, CEAGESP was transferred over the Federal Government and subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture,Livestock and Supply.
